Centers & Technologies

The Life Sciences Institute is home to research centers and other cutting-edge technologies that support the scientific endeavors of LSI researchers and faculty across the university — as well as external partners.

Researchers in the Center for Chemical Genomics

Center for Chemical Genomics

High-throughput screening of extensive small molecule, natural product and siRNA libraries for basic biology and drug discovery projects.

Open to U-M and external users.

Dynamic Training opportunities

Center for Structural Biology

Comprehensive structural biology resources — including protein engineering & production, crystallization & crystallography laboratories, and access to high-energy synchrotron radiation.

Open to U-M and external users.

Melanie Ohi, Ph.D., and Jacquelyn Roberts examine the Titan Krios microscope

Cryo-Electron Microscopy

World-class cryo-EM lab with four microscopes, including a Titan Krios. Fosters education and tools to make cryo-EM more widely available.

Open to U-M and external users.

Researchers working in the Natural Products Discovery Core

Natural Products Discovery Core

A first-in-class library of natural product extracts, as well as characterization and transformational tools and expertise for basic biology and drug discovery projects.

Open to U-M and external users.

Mass spectrometry machine

Mass Spectrometry

Open-use and assisted analysis of proteins and small molecules, as well as training on use of the instruments.

Open to LSI researchers.

Michigan Drug Discovery Logo

Michigan Drug Discovery

Provides expertise, mentorship and funding for drug discovery projects across the university.

Administrated by the LSI.
